Quick answer. Red to dead positive, red to good positive, black to good negative, black to unpainted metal on the dead car. Start the good car, then the dead one. Remove in reverse.

A wrong clamp order is how people weld a wrench to a battery.

MarketPalace Guide Center writes this as a solution walkthrough — the order we would use if we were in the room with you. We name the next click, then what to do if that click fails. We do not sell the TV, the kettle, or the plane ticket.

If a menu name on your set or phone does not match, use the closest wording and email hello@marketpalace.shop. We correct live pages when the path has moved.

What you need

  • Jumper cables
  • A second car or a jump pack
  • Eye protection if you have it

1. Both cars off, parking brake on

Confirm the batteries are the same voltage — almost all cars are 12 V.

2. Red on dead +, red on donor +

Then black on donor −, then black on a bare metal earth on the dead car, not the dead − if you can avoid it.

3. Start donor, wait a minute, start dead

If it does not fire after a few tries, stop. You may need a pack or a tow.

4. Remove cables in reverse order

Drive the revived car 20 minutes to charge.

If it still fails

  • Do not jump a cracked, frozen, or leaking battery. Do not smoke.

When you are done, browse more in Car & Commute or search the Guide Center for the next job on your list. A neighbour problem — a remote, a bill, a suitcase — has its own walkthrough.

Hybrid / EV?

Many need a specific jump point. Read the flap label. Do not clamp at random.
